Damascus, (SANA)- A Christmas grotto at Saidnaya Convent, the largest in the region, opened its doors to welcome Christmas as a Christmas tree stood sparkling with pretty colors.
The 300 square-meter grotto was artificially made at the Convent, some 30 km northeast Damascus. It includes 14 rooms covered with rock-like papers telling the story of the birth and life of Jesus Christ.
Around 13,500 bright colorful decorative lights lit up a 30 m long, 10 m wide Christmas tree which stood sparkling outside the Convent.
Performance sketches were presented by Scout groups and orphans at the Convent of Our Lady of Saidnaya embodying all the noble meanings and the great message Jesus came with.
Sister Stephanie, speaking on behalf of the Head of Saidnaya Convent Christine Paz, said that Syria as the cradle of ancient civilizations is an example of co-existence among religions.
"What a pleasure to come together on this sacred occasion that came to spread love, peace and equality among people," she added.
For his part, Minister of Information Mohsen Bilal, who attended the ceremony, spoke of the high noble values of the occasion, wishing pilgrims who seek this holy destination of Saidnaya from all over the world and all the people who contributed to this achievement a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
